Attractive Imitators

6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit; 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedo′nia and in Acha′ia. 8 For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedo′nia and Acha′ia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. (1 Thess 1:6-8 RSV)

This Easter season has been one with much praise and rejoicing within our fellowship of believers but in our Canadian society, it is different.

Much uncertainty with our federal election,

Many desperately searching for a “leader” who will guide them through troubled times,

The loss of a moral leader in the Roman Catholic church,

and the changing of world power structures.

Their "solid rock” for life is unstable and they are scared.

What a contrast to those who celebrate the Risen and Living Lord, Jesus Christ.

The believers of Thessalonica were in the midst of “much affliction” during their time as well… and received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit.

In fact, the believers of Thessalonica were so open & genuine in their faith that it contagiously spread to Macedonia, Achaia, & subsequently everywhere.

Paul and his companions did not have to say anything. Their gospel had already become known “so that we (Paul and companions) need not say anything”.

O God, may that be said of we who follow this risen Christ. May it not be controlled within the structure of the church, but within the structure of Your Spirit, Lord.

Led by You, inspired by You, & infused with You.

Take my life & let it be ...so.
